Milk Does A Body Good?!

What's up with PETA lately? The idea of using human breast milk in icecream doesn't really solve any problems. I mean if they are supposed to be all for the ethical treatment of animals then why do they want to subject human women to the same tourtures they are trying to free female cows from? Last I checked humans, while more intelligent and self aware than all other forms of life on our planet (to our current knowledge), were a type of animal.

What woman in her right mind would want to volunteer for a job where you hook yourself up to a pump for 20-30 minute increments every 3-4 hours to provide milk for others, who are not your offspring, to enjoy? Trust me when I say, "You do feel like a cow, it is very boring, and sometimes painful. " And how would any food company decide what to pay for a service like that let alone which women should be used and if it is healthy for a woman to prolong her lactation at a high rate of production (especially if she is no longer providing her milk for a child)? No one even knows how human milk would fare if used for making icecream.

While I can say yes the idea of drinking human milk is no stranger than drinking milk from another species, I can tell you from the experience of being a new mother that human breast milk is meant for the baby of the mother who bore it. Even the nurses at hospitals make sure they do not mix up the milk of different mothers when bottle feeding babies in the NICU because each baby needs it's own mothers milk for very specific reasons - antibodies being only one of them.

I will be the first to admit that I did taste my own breast milk, and while that may seem weird it wasn't completely gross. However, every person's milk will be different - especially after they eat certian foods. If a lactating woman eats spicey food her milk will end up being spicey. I suppose that is a new way Ben and Jerry's could flavor their icecream if they wanted to participate in PETA's crazy notion. Thank goodness; however, Ben and Jerry's doesn't seem interested or I think I'd have to stop eating their tasty treats.

Waht is your take on the subject? Would you eat food made from human milk? Would you willingly provide your milk for a cause like this? Should the women who would do this go through a screening process, not only physically, but mentaly?
